freddie hubbard - here to stay

* Freddie Hubbard: trumpet
* Wayne Shorter: tenor saxophone
* Cedar Walton: piano
* Reggie Workman: bass
* Philly Joe Jones: drums

Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on December 27, 1962
This album was scheduled for release as BST 84135 in 1963 but was never issued.

"This album was recorded in December 1962, mastered, given a catalogue number and a cover that even appeared on inner sleeves of other Blue Note albums. But for reasons unknown, this recording, which Hubbard later proclaimed one of his favorites, sat in the can for another 13 years! With the exception of Philly Joe Jones, all of the musicians were members of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers at the time and their empathy matches their considerable skills. If there is a highlight here, it’s Hubbard’s challenging "Nostrand and Fulton", which everyone pulls off with aplomb."

andrew hill - pax

"Originally recorded in 1965, and released piecemeal on other collections (ONE FOR ONE and MOSAIC SELECT), the sessions for PAX didn't appear in their entirety until 2006.
The revered pianist Andrew Hill is in superb company here, with Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Richard Davis, and Joe Chambers on board to help carve out slices of unique, knotty post-bop.
Hill is a master of merging the best elements of the avant garde and the mainstream, and the too-long-shelved PAX is proof positive of that skill.
Better a Blue Note gem late than never."

Personnel: Andrew Hill (piano); Joe Henderson (saxophone); Freddie Hubbard (cornet); Richard Davis (upright bass); Joe Chambers (drums).
